Rule/Guidelines/Expectations
1.      You are joining a running team – expect to run and don’t avoid it.
2.     Make a commitment, keep the commitment.  Don’t expect this to be a matter of convenience.  Go out of way to make yourself available.
3.     Be a good teammate.  If you’re a leader – be a good one.  If you’re a follower, be a good one.
4.     Run with the right people, always.  This is non-negotiable. 22 minute people should never run with 28 minute people – it isn’t fair to either.
5.     Communicate with the coaches!  Schedules, health, other concerns.  We are not mind-readers! Do NOT pass word along via teammates.
6.     The only way to get better is to do more and faster than you did last year.  Expect it, want it, embrace it.
7.     When the captains organize something, you are expected to do everything you can within reason to participate.
8.     Be proud of this team!
9.     Get this team back to being a family!
10.   Wear good shoes (and tie them appropriately!).
11.   If you have a health concern we need to know about it immediately.
12.   Do not go “half in” on warm-up.  Injuries don’t take it easy on you, so don’t take it easy on preventing injuries.
13.   Don’t ask to leave meets early except for special occasions (which do NOT happen every meet day!).  Stay and cheer for your team!
14.   If you’re going to be a runner, treat your body, mind, and soul as a runner.
15.   No flip-flops at meets or practice.  Ever.
16.   Realize running is a sport that requires maturity, emotional and mental moreso than physical.  Do not expect immediate results – improvement takes weeks, months, and years.
17.   Be a student of the sport.  Know your PRs, know your friends PRs, know the school records, and know some famous runners.  If basketball players know who the pros are, why shouldn’t you?
18.   Dress properly for the weather and have extra clothes ready.  This goes for warm days as well as cold ones.
19.   Walk past horses on the trail unless told otherwise.
20.   If you get hurt on the trail, you can move out to the bike path – your teammates will inform the coaches who will come get you.  Don’t make 5 teammates walk to keep you company. Maybe 1 teammate if passing out is a possibility.
21.   Don’t ever ask teammates to stop, walk, or do anything else un-needed during a run.  Don’t do it!
22.   In summary, be a good coachable student-athlete who sets attainable goals for herself, works hard to achieve them, and helps her teammates do the same as we all strive to better ourselves.
