Shaking the Rust Off at Bucyrus
Most schools opened the season last weekend, but for SJA the rust-breaker was the Bucyrus Elks Invitational. This was our first time visiting the Elks invitational. After a rough week and an early bus trip (6:00AM!) the JV got us off to a strong start. A whopping 16 first-time racers toed the line along with a handful of others for SJA, but it was a senior who took last year off that led the way. Finishing in a PR and getting second place overall was Emma Cleary. Emma ran a brilliant race that saw her sit on the shoulders of the right people then outkick them in the final straight.
The varsity crew, inspired by so many strong JV races, knew they had their hands full with Hilliard Davidson. It turns out Davidson was much more prepared for this meet as they easily won the race. We used our depth to earn second place, but I think all of us left the meet realizing we're not nearly as far along as we thought...there is a LOT of work to be done.
